How many people can fit on one BigBike or what is the maximum number of passengers?
One BigBike can accommodate a maximum of 16 passengers:
10 seats with pedals, 5 seats without pedals, 1 behind the bar counter to draw the beer.
What is the minimum number of passengers per BigBike?
The BigBike needs a minimum of 6 to 8 passengers pedalling to move the heavy vehicle on the road. Also depending on your condition.
What is the maximum number of passengers you could accommodate in total?
We have 10 BigBikes available at 16 passengers each. With all BigBikes we could be able to accommodate groups up to 154 passengers at the same time.
Can smaller groups book a BigBike?
No, generally, BigBike tours can be arranged for groups from 6 to 16 passengers per BigBike only.
Can a smaller group join other groups?
Usually not. Most group bookings are for family or stag parties, so the renter doesn’t allow total strangers to join the group. But we will try to help you. If you phone us just a few days before the time, we would with pleasure check with other smaller groups, if they allow you to join them. In this case the cost of the tour would be split into number of passengers and you would have to pay your share.
Are there public rides?
No, there are no public hop-on/hop-off rides.
Can I book even if I don’t know the exact number of passengers?
You are renting a BigBike for up to 16 passengers. You are not renting it by seat or number of passengers. Though the minimum number of passengers is 6, the maximum number of passengers is 16.
So no matter if you are 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 passengers, the rate for the BigBike will be the same.
Does BigBike operate throughout the year?
Yes, Big Bike operates throughout the whole year. In wintertime we also offer glühwein (mulled wine) as drink.
What are the operating hours?
The BigBike can be booked from Sunday to Thursday between 9:00 and 22:00. On Friday, Saturday, public holidays and the day before a public holiday the BigBike can be rented between 8.00 and 24:00.
How long does a standard tour last?
The duration of a standard tour is 2 hours.
How much does a standard 2 hours BigBike tour cost?
Mondays to Thursdays 240,00 Euro BigBike rental in total (=120,00 Euro per hour per BigBike)
Friday and Sundays 280,00 Euro BigBike rental in total (=140,00 Euro per hour per BigBike)
Saturday and Holidays 300,00 Euro BigBike rental in total (=150,00 Euro per hour per BigBike)
Can I book a 1 hour tour?
Yes, But please note that there is a minimum-order surcharge of 50,00 Euros per hour to the standard rate on tours less than two hours.

Can I book a 1,5 hour tour?
You could book a 1,5 hour tour. But please note that there is a minimum-order surcharge of 50,00 Euros per hour to the standard rate on tours less than two hours. Therefore the system calculates the cost and it will cost you more than a two hour tour. So it doesn’t make sense to book 1,5 hours. Rather book a 2 hours tour, and if you want to return to the BigBike rental depot earlier, just tell your driver-guide.

Can I book a longer tour, for example a 3 hour tour?

Saturday and Holidays 420,00 Euro BigBike rental in total (=140,00 Euro per hour per BigBike)
Tours longer than 3 hours or day tours on request.
What is included in this rate?
The BigBike rental always includes an experienced driver-guide.
Do you offer a sightseeing tour with a professional tourist guide or in a different language?
We provide German and English speaking experienced driver-guides only, but not a qualified / trained tourist guide.
You can hire a professional tourist guide or a guide for another language (other than German or English) at a surcharge of 55,00 Euro per hour per BigBike.
Is the beer included?
No, beverages are not included and have to be ordered from us together with the booking of the BigBike.
How much do the beverages cost?
Beer: Price per litre 4,90 EUR
Cola: 1 l Bottle Price 2,80 EUR
Fanta: 1 l Bottle Price 2,80 EUR
Sprite: 1 l Bottle Price 2,80 EUR
Sparkling Wine: 0,7 l Bottle Price 12,00 EUR
Mineral water: 1 l Bottle Price 2,80 EUR
Apple cider: Bottle Price 6,50 EUR.
Can I order any amount of beer?
No, beer can only be ordered in kegs. Hence you can only order full kegs at 5, 10 or 20 litres. Nothing in-between.
What kind of beer and what make of beer do you offer?
We only offer beer brewed in accordance with the German Beer Purity Law. According to the German law on purity dating from 1516, beer consists of only the ingredients barley, or rather, malt, water, hops, and yeast.
We cannot guarantee a certain make of beer, due to availability from our beverage wholesale dealer.
Is there a limit to the amount of beer which I can order?
Yes, due to traffic regulations, our BigBike code of conduct and rental terms and conditions the maximum allowance of beer is limited to a quantity of 20 litres per tour (per fully occupied BigBike, per two hours standard tour).
Hence 20 litres of beer for a full occupied BigBike (9-16 passengers) for a 2 hours standard tour.
Hence 10 litres of beer for a half occupied BigBike (6-8 passengers) for a 2 hours standard tour.
Hence 10 litres of beer for a full occupied BigBike (9-16 passengers) for a 1 hour tour.
Hence 30 litres of beer for a full occupied BigBike (9-16 passengers) for a 3 hours tour.
Can I order spirits or drinks with a high alcohol content?
No, definitely not. The consumption of spirits or liquor with a high alcohol content is completely prohibited.
The driver-guides have the strict instruction to monitor the compliance of this provision. The driver-guide is entitled to discontinue the tour immediately if passengers not abide by this rule. This is in compliance with traffic regulations and insurance law.
Do I have to order beer and beverages in advance?
You can order the other drinks upfront or you can also order beverages on the day of the tour at our driver guide if your tour starts at our BigBike rental depot. We can also take with several bottles on commission, and you will only pay for the drinks you consume. Additional drinks have to be paid in cash on the day of the tour to your driver-guide.
What do you need to know from me for a booking?
For a provisional booking, we need your
- full name (first name and surname)
- residential street name and number
- postal code, city, country
- mobile telephone number (and/or landline)
- required date
- required time slot (from… until…)
- number of participants (minimum per BigBike 6, maximum per BigBike 16)
- list of the required beverages (consider the keg size and maximum allowance!)
- preferred payment option: International Bank transfer in Euro or PayPal payment
(5,00 Euro surcharge for PayPal payment fee).
Do you require a deposit, how much and when?
To guarantee the booking, a deposit of the full BigBike rental only (not the beverages) is required. Usually we require a prepayment of the BigBike rental 30 days prior to the tour date. Balance for beverages in cash on the day of the tour.
For your convenience you can pay the full amount for BigBike rental and beverages upfront.
Can I just show up and pay in cash?
No, due to the fact that we have to organise the driver-guides for the BigBike tours, to show up at our BigBike rental depot without a pre-booking, without a signed rental-agreement or without pre-payment is unfortunately not possible. A prepayment of the BigBike rental is essential.
Do I have to book in advance or can I just show up at the BigBike rental depot?
A booking in advance is essential, due to the fact that we have to organise the driver-guides for the BigBike tours. To show up at our BigBike rental depot without a pre-booking, without a signed rental-agreement or without pre-payment is unfortunately not possible.
How long in advance should I book the BigBike?
In summer and especially Fridays and Saturdays we are very well booked and we can’t guarantee for availability for certain time slots. If you need to book more than one BigBike, it’s even more difficult.
Therefore in summer we recommend to book the BigBike at least 4-6 weeks prior to the proposed tour date.
What payment options do I have?
There are only two payment options:
Either international bank transfer in Euro or PayPal payment in Euro (5,00 Euro surcharge for PayPal payment fee per BigBike).

Can I pay by credit card?
No, credit cards are not accepted!
Can I pay in a different currency?
No, all payments have to be done in Euro. Either international bank transfer in Euro or PayPal payment in Euro.
What is the cancellation policy?
After signing the lease, following cancellation conditions apply:
In case of cancellation of the lease up to 30 days prior to the rental date 50% of the rent for the BigBike is due.
For drinks, transportation and miscellaneous no cancellation fee will be charged.
If cancelled later - that is less than 30 days prior to the rental date - 100% of the rent for the BigBike is due.
Does the contractual relationship with BigBike fall under the Remote Sales Act ?
The conditions of the Remote Sales Act (supply of goods or rendering of services between entrepreneur and final consumer with the exclusive use of remote communications equipment) are regulated in the German Civil Code (BGB).
According to section 312 b paragraph 3 no 6 BGB (German Civil Code) the Remote Sales Act does not apply on contracts for the provision of services in the field of leisure, if the contractor commits oneself in the contract, to provide the services on a specific date or within a specific period. Therefore BigBike bookings are not subject to the Remote Sales Act.
This means, that a two-week cancellation and return policy is excluded. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions.
Where do the tours generally start and finish?
The tours start and end at the BigBike rental depot: Entrance Lützowufer 13, 10785 Berlin-Tiergarten.
The name of the bus stop for the bus line M29 right in front is “Hiroshimasteg”.

Should we show up at the rental depot a bit earlier?
We recommend being at the rental depot about 10 minutes before the tour is scheduled to start. This will give our driver-guide enough time, to instruct you about the BigBike, to explain the code of conduct or to load - on your request - additional beverages onto the BigBike.
Can we start or finish the tour somewhere else?
A delivery and/or collection of the BigBike to a different starting and/or from a different finishing point (other than our BigBike rental depot) are principally possible. Within the city of Berlin, for a delivery or a collection we charge 95,00 Euro per transport per BigBike each. Delivery and collection 190,00 Euro. However we don’t do transports on a Saturday.
What tours do you offer?
We do not have a fixed route. The route can be organised with our experienced driver guide on the day of the tour. It also depends on the traffic situation, closed roads, interests and physical condition of the participants. We will try to include as many Berlin landmarks as possible.
What speed can be achieved and what distance can be covered with a BigBike?
With a BigBike you can achieve a maximum speed of up to 6 kilometers per hour. We recommend, to plan no more than 5 kilometeres per hour.
Do you have a music system?
Yes, our BigBikes are equipped with a sound system.
Do I have to bring my own music and in which format?
Unfortunately the legal situation in Germany does not allow us to provide music (unless we pay an enormous charge/fee for copyright and service rights accruing in connection with any media use).
Therefore you have to bring your own music of your choice on CD, MP3-player, iPod or as MP3-files on an USB-stick.
Does the alcohol limit (provisions of the road traffic regulations) apply to the BigBike?
Yes. Due to the demands of the public, restrictive city regulations and new legislation, we are obliged to strictly enforce the provisions and rules of the Road Traffic Act (Straßenverkehrsordnung StVO).
You have to start the tour sober (the limit is 0,02 % Blood Alcohol Content) and no exceptions will be made.
You agree that random alcohol tests are conducted with the participants.
We have a breathalyser (AlcoTest® alcohol detection device) which measures the concentration of alcohol in the breath, which is notionally converted into the BAC value. The AlcoTest® devices are of recognized quality; they are calibrated and allow highly reliable measurements.
For safety reasons and to prevent accidents, our driver guides reserve the right to refrain from performing tours at all or to stop the tour on the road (which will cost an additional fee for collecting the BigBike), if the participants cannot guarantee for safety during the tour due to the level of alcohol and due to driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the rules stipulated in the BigBike rental terms and conditions in such a case no refund will be given.
Therefore we again wish to point out, that our “BigBike Rental terms and conditions” and “BigBike Code of conduct” are an essential part of the rental agreement (page 2 and 3)!
BigBike safety guidelines
Only the back seat does have a backrest and protects against falling off the BigBike. All other seats are without a backrest.
Are there breaks during the tour?
During our tours there will be enough rest stops. On every BigBike you find a list of restrooms that you can use along your route, our driver will stop there at regular intervals.
